Doctor Honoris Causa Honorary title awarded to professor Earar Kamel from Romanian ”Dunarea De Jos” University

The Senate of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa honorary title to University Professor Dr. Earar Kamel, Director of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Research Center, Head of the Oral Rehabilitation Laboratory, Dunarea de Jos University of Galati, Romania.

During the ceremony, University Rector Emil Ceban read the Laudatio, mentioning that the honorary title was conferred on Professor Earar Kamel for his substantial contribution to the development of cooperation relations between ”Nicolae Testemitanu” University and ”Dunarea de Jos” University for more than a decade, and in appreciation and gratitude for the prodigious scientific activity, the meritorious results in promoting medical science and practice, providing support in the professional formation and refresher training of university scientific- didactic staff and medical staff in the field of dentistry for the national health system, but also for promoting Nicolae Testemitanu University in Romania and in other countries. 

"The granting of the honorary title represents not only a natural recognition of an exceptional academic career, but also a symbol of the consolidation of a valuable institutional partnership, based on respect, collaboration and excellence," emphasized the rector. 

In support of the Senate's decision, Associate Professor Oleg Solomon, head of Ilarion Postolachi Department of Orthopedic Dentistry, highlighted the substantial contribution of Dr. Earar Kamel, who donated 20 specialized books to the department he represents and participated in the development of a manual used in the training process of students and resident doctors from Romania and the Republic of Moldova. He also participated jointly with the researchers of Nicolae Testemitanu University in various national and international exhibitions and invention salons, being the author of the joint patent of  Nicolae Testemitanu University and Dunarea de Jos University of Galati. He participates as a reviewer in doctoral theses in medical sciences. He has held teaching courses for students, resident physicians and doctoral students of our university, is a guest lecturer at the congresses of the Association of Medical Students and Residents of Moldova, as well as at various scientific and practical events in the field of dentistry, significantly contributing to increasing the international visibility of our university," added the associate professor. 

​For his part, Professor Kamel declared himself honored for the title awarded, which makes him feel like a member of the Nicolae Testemitanu University family, and assured that he would carry the good name of the institution wherever he would go in the world.

The award ceremony took place on May 15. The event was attended by members of the University Senate and representatives of the Faculty of Stomatology.

Dr. Earar Kamel was born on January 13, 1969. He graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry of ”Gr.T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iasi, Romania, with the qualification of specialist in general dentistry, and his entire professional career is linked to the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the ”Dunarea de Jos” University in Galati, Romania. During the years 1997-1999, he completed his doctoral studies and defended his doctoral thesis in medical sciences.

Starting in 2000, he successively attended a series of continuing education courses, organized by ”Gr.T.Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy. This allowed him to advance in his professional career from a specialist in general dentistry, to a primary physician in general dentistry, in 2010, a specialist in dental prosthetics (second specialty), in 2014, and later a primary physician in dental prosthetics and in 2015 - a specialist in periodontology. Between 2017-2019, he continued his studies at Gr.T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Iasi, Faculty of Dental Medicine, obtaining a master's degree in implant-prosthetic rehabilitation.

Professor Earar Kamel's scientific interests focus on the topic of implant-prosthetic rehabilitation, especially on how to improve and evaluate their execution techniques. He conducted the first research in biomaterials, addressing current issues in the field of orthopedic dentistry and periodontal processes. He is the author and co-author of 9 published books, 61 articles in ISI-listed journals and 62 articles in BDI-indexed journals.

Within the Dunarea de Jos University, Professor Kamel has held and continues to hold several responsible positions: vice-rector for international relations and ERASMUS programs, director of the Medical-Pharmaceutical Research Center, head of the Oral Rehabilitation Laboratory, head of disciplines and course coordinator in "Dental Prosthetics", "Implant-Prosthetic Therapy and Oral Rehabilitation", supervisor and residency coordinator in the specialty of Dental Prosthetics, doctoral supervisor in the design and conduct of clinical and fundamental research, as well as in the writing of doctoral theses.

The national and international appreciation of Dr. Earar Kamel's outstanding merits is evidenced by his membership in: the College of Dentists of Romania, the Romanian Society of Oral Rehabilitation, the Romanian Dental Association for Education, the Romanian Society of Periodontology, the Romanian Society for Biomaterials, member of the Board of Directors, member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, etc.

Professor Earar Kamel's prodigious multilateral activity has been recognized with over 70 national and international awards, medals and special prizes.
