”Nicolae Testemitanu” University maintains its first place at the national level in Scimago Ranking 2025

Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova ranks first among the four higher education and research institutions of the country listed in SCImago Institutions Rankings, 2025 edition (SIR, https://www.scimagoir.com/).

According to SIR, Nicolae Testemitanu University ranks 2751st globally among the 5051 higher education institutions (advancing 349 positions compared to 2024) and 168th among the 476 universities from Eastern Europe included in the ranking (39 positions up compared to last year) and occupies first place nationally among the 3 higher education institutions.

In the SIR of medical universities, Nicolae Testemitanu University ranks 2286th worldwide among 2897 universities and 129th among the 205 medical universities from Eastern Europe.

In the global SCImago ranking of institutions in the field of medicine, Nicolae Testemitanu University ranks 4701st among 5633 institutions and 213th among 341 institutions from Eastern Europe. Our institution has the best positions, compared to other universities, in the following areas:

Public and Occupational Health – 563rd position worldwide and 8th place in Eastern Europe; 

Infectious Diseases – position 1499 globally and 81st among institutions in the Eastern Europe region; 

Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology – 1768th place globally and 105th among institutions from Eastern Europe;

Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceuticals – 1864th place worldwide and 122nd in the Eastern European region. 

SCImago is a ranking of higher education and research institutions, by a composite indicator, which combines three sets of indicators based on research performance (50%), innovation outcomes (30%) and societal impact (20%) measured by their web visibility.

In the General SCImago ranking, Nicolae Testemitanu University ranks 6402nd globally among 9756 institutions (advancing by 455 positions), 276th among 867 research institutions from Eastern Europe included in the top (advancing by 75 positions), and in first position nationally, followed by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the State University of Moldova and the Technical University of Moldova.

In the Research ranking, which refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's scientific results, our university is ranked 5924th globally among the 9756 institutions included in the SCI, 408th among the 867 research institutions from Eastern Europe, and is a leader at the national level. Also, Nicolae Testemitanu University is ranked 2338th among the 5051 universities globally included in the Research ranking (advancing by 392 positions), 236th out of 476 universities in Eastern Europe (by 17 positions up), and first at the national level.

The Innovation Top is calculated based on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research results receive from patents.
